At the Scene of the Crime -- Appointment With Death (Teaser #2) Add Video

A teaser for an upcoming project in which I dissect the adaptation of Agatha Christie's APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH... and the disaster that ensues onscreen. Clips taken from THE MUMMY and APPOINTMENT WITH DEATH. Music taken from THE MUMMY. I do not own either of these movies nor the soundtrack.

I have to agree with you, Patrick. There is no point to add in subplots to an existing story because of a misguided notion that it's the only way to make it appeal to the audience. If someone wants to write a murder mystery set in the Middle East that touches on child abuse and slavery - make it an original story, don't shoehorn it into one that's already been written.

I look forward to your beatdown. Regretfully, I haven't seen any of the Suchet Poirot movies, so I can't evaluate how he's performed in any others. How do you think he's done?

I love Suchet, but to be honest, I can't stand the recent adaptations that feel the need to "modernise" Christie. This episode is possibly the lowest point in the series. We get some frankly offensive subplots shoehorned in about child abuse and white slavery. The characters are so many that it's hard to keep track and many of them are merely sketches. The dialogue is atrocious. The acting is terrible on all fronts. The director is laughably pretentious. And yet, any sort of so-bad-it's-good fun you might have gotten from the movie is sucked out by how seriously everyone takes it.

Out of curiosity, do you like Suchet or any of the adaptations? Looking forward to it.
