STOP THE HATE #165 - The Why Nots Add Video

Some sound advice from Kevin Smith, via me. Also, this was supposed to be my first video from blip, but for whatever reason the video wouldn't link. If anyone knows how to link from blip, could you send me an email. Thanks.

I like your point here. I definitely do this to enjoy myself and show people a side of myself that isn't common. I have a lot of people question this when I tell them about, but I just say that it is something I really enjoy. I feel like gloating a little bit because my parents read and watch everything I do. In fact, my grandparents usually do as well. My parents even have a profile on here so they can comment on my stuff, bigblackhatmanfan. How awesome is that. Good video

That is the coolest thing ever, my friend :D

I know I'm still attending college and all but still, my family doesn't really support what I do with my work. They say its a waste of time and "why bother?"

Why bother?....because you love it, that's why! Because it's important to you, my friend. I love to sing and play the piano. Many members of my family always treated it like a nice little hobby. "You'll never make a lot of money being a starving artist!" or "You'll have a day job to support your hobby!" is what they'd say. Well, 23 years later, and I'm supporting a family as a professional musician performing regularly on the Las Vegas Strip(no day job, just raising kids.....).

Why did I bother? BECAUSE I LOVE IT!......If you love something, commit to finding a way to earn a living doing it, because the alternative is to work a 9-5 job you despise for a measly paycheck while you wither and die a little every day of the rest of your life. Good luck, dear one. Peace.

AH, my favorite saying, it is the main reason I have actually tried so many different foods in my life, ever had baby octopus? It's pretty good. When it comes to money, I like money, hell, I love money, and proud to say it, but first and foremost I love places like this, where that kind of thing simply doesn't matter, where everyone can simply be who they are, without fear of persecution or resentment, and that, my friends, is why I come back every day, because all of you have gone out, and chosen to express yourself. We are a community of Why Nots, and we should pronounce it to the heavens, because, why not?

Well said James. What we do here at Manic Expression is not for money, we do it because we have a passion for it. We take a few minutes of our busy schedules to talk about what we love. I feel that some websites have lost that passionate spark. Glad that we have this website here. We have you doing your Stop The Hate vids, Les doing his fantastic piano music vids, JoTaKa doing his vids talking about rock, Moviefan12 and DisneyOtoko doing their Disney articles, Timdiana reviewing movies in a funny, informative way, BigBlackHatMan talking about country music, and so much more.

I have great hopes for this site and people will say why we do this. We can proudly say, "Why not?"

Sydney,
I know how that feels, but don't give up. Go to school, yes, but make writing what you do for a living, if that's what you love. Publish your books (one of which is available in our web store right now everyone, buy it now!), and if you can't do that work for a magazine or newspaper. Do what YOU love, don't let anyone tell you what you SHOULD love.

I know exactly what you mean, James. I've got about 20 friends and family on my facebook - which I am always updating with my videos - and I have a facebook fan page for Decker Shado. ...ONE of my friends "liked" it. Just one. No family, only one friend.

I've discussed the show with plenty in my life, and yes the money is always the first thing to come up in other people's minds. One friend of mine is so hell bent on getting paid, he's stated that suggesting I review movie X should mean that after I get whatever gobs of money out of it might come, he should get at least 60% of it. Oh, and no he's never watched my show. He does know well by now, however - that Blip doesn't pay until you make at least $25.

I've had a game I've wanted to make for years on the back burner - and before, others would offer help if they would be paid exorbitant sums for the trouble.. however, since I've decided that people playing is much more important than profit, the people willing to help has dropped to 0. But oh well.. I will continue making videos, and planning other projects, because.. why not? :)

Kyle,
When I was growing up, my parents wanted to instill one thing in me: make money. Buy a house. Have a family. But I watched them, and they were MISERABLE all throughout my childhood. They hated their jobs, and I never wanted that for myself. I knew I would be much happier poor than being a slave to money.

Les,
Thank you, thank you!

I've avoided so many situations where my work would have been exploited for profit. I had a film producer once offer to make Bloodshot into "the next Twilight." I was horrified and turned him down.

Wow boss man. Just wow.

So many people have shat upon me for taking a chance with writing, including my own family. Though they do it to push me for what I need to do; go to school, get a job, and a family, but... What if I just want to do this first? It wouldn't be bad to make a little bit of money off of it, but still. Its what I want to do. I know I should go to school and get a job. That's what I need but what about side projects? Why can't we all have something in our spare time? Why can't I blog and watch my dearest members videos? Hmm?

Y'know this is going to probably sound snobby and elitist but I truly believe that what you just talked about is what really separates the artist (or why nots) from everyone else. Most ordinary working class people are only concerned with going to work, doing their jobs, getting their paychecks, and then going home. There's no greater aspirations with those people. They just want to get by, and there's nothing wrong with that, by the way. Everyone should be able to live their lives how they see fit. But artist are the complete opposite. They don't just wanna get by, they wanna do so much more. They not only want to understand themselves but everyone one around them. They know and feel that there's much more to life then just surviving. There's a greater purpose or meaning out there and they wanna find it. Now I don't consider myself some great artist- hell I barley qualify as artist altogether-but I consider myself to be someone who knows that this simply isn't it... that there's more to life than work, taxes and death. And I really, truly want to know what it is that drives this world and everyone in it. That's my goal in life.

Sorry for the rant. Great STH, James.

Hi James.*Stands up.....CLAP!....CLAP!...CLAP!...CLAP!....CLAP!...BRAVO! You just hit the nail on the head what makes a site like Manic Expression so great: Why Nots having fun doing what they love-together :)

Speaking from experience, doing a job for money sucks when you've no love for it. Figuring out how to make a living doing what you love: Priceless. Your work is so much better when you love what you do. The same applies to expression of art: If you're only doing if for the money, the art becomes passionless and poor. If you do it for the love of the art, then the art is passionate and rich....THEN if money comes from it, it comes for the right reasons, and not from a be-all-end-all purpose.

I'm really proud of this community, my friend. Peace.
