I was just wondering what the community thought on whats the more superior animation from story to animation quality. For me I will always pick American animation over anime because I like the animation style better.

I think anime has better storytelling than most american animation, but american animation usually looks cleaner and is easier to look at.

That's kind of an odd question to ask. Well, the first thing you should keep in mind is that anime was first inspired by western animation, specifically Disney. Second is that they both have their weaknesses and strengths. I think the art of most anime is usually above standard western animation... not always but often enough. For western animation the stories and writing are usually better, even if the animation and art is not always that great. And finally, the third thing to consider is how vastly western animation and anime verie in style and quality altogether. Not all western animation is the same, not all anime is the same.

So in conclusion, they're both pretty good but they also both have their fair share of shit. 

As a huge anime fan and not so much of cartoon fan, I have to say that I think anime is better. First and foremost, if you get a series of any cartoon, you will not get a sense of over arching plot. There are some cases where that happens, but the large majority of them does not, while in anime, there are some cases where it's a free for all episode form, but for the most part, it's this story that you can get on at the first episode, build up throughout the series, and receive a payoff in the last episode. I also think anime has a tendency of being more deep and mess with some subjects that usually cartoons don't touch all that often, and I think that since it's expected that a manga will become an anime and it will follow the manga closely, that it probably will not suffer from adaptation decay (as most cartoons do). Jus' sayin'. 

While I won't write an essay here (since I can just write a blog about it later), I was talking to my friend yesterday about how I like My Little Pony and pointed out that in the West we have no real diversity when it comes to animation. Anime has adult, hentai, children, marketing etc. In the West we have adult animation (The Simpsons, Family Guy etc) and kid annimation. We haven't split it into the various catergories that anime has, so we automatically split every cartoon into either for adults or for kids.

Yep, it's comparing apples to oranges and depends entirely on your personal preference.  Put the greatest Anime up against the greatest American animation and both are exceptional...say Walt Disney's Fantasia and Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away as an example...both have as perfect as animation ever gets animation, and both produce unforgettable characters and stories within them.  Why does one have to be declared better than the other?

I like to appreciate both for what they offer.  Stay tuned for a collaboration me and Fusionater are cooking up on two great anime's we introduced each other too:  Death Note and Cowboy Bebop.  I'm looking forward to collaborating with my Christmas cover loving Bat-Brother again  Peace.

I have to toss my hat in with Kyle and Les. To compare the two doesn't make sense since both have their own styles/evolution as a medium, and both have their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
