http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TropesAreTools is a decent enough explanation. Basically tropes are "The recurring conventions in fiction." All fiction has patterns to it, TV trope just points them out. Spend 10 minutes on the site and you soon get what tropes are.
... Don't blame me if you get addicted though. Meanwhile a cliche is an overused saying/idea/etc that everyone has heard and gotten tired of. Like 'Archellies Heel' or 'as brave as a lion'. Something that not only has everyone heard, but people are tired of hearing them

Nope, evil laughs are completely cliche, and to me, they are never dull.

Then to put it another way: All cliches are tropes, but not all tropes are cliches. Bit of a redundant definition, but the best way to put it.

I don't quite know what tropes I'd personally apply to myself, although I pretty much read a whole lot of them. The Manic Expression page that exists now is just weird, describes it as an "Orwellian Society" and having a bunch of tropes that in no way apply to the site.

I saw it. I was wondering if it was someone's idea of a joke. I thought of editing the page, but I couldn't think of tropes that DO apply to the site. Aside from a few... Such as... Crosses The Line Twice: Mr. Smooth. (Crosses The Line Twice means something that starts out to be seemingly offensive, but then gets so ridiculous one can't take it seriously and it's funny).

The Unfavorite could be a trope that applies, since many of the people on this site started off on TGWTG, before the big Purge.
