Ok I am getting sick and tired of people thinking it was the rape joke that started and lead to Spoony being let go of TGWTG, because I can assure you that it wasn't. I am also getting tired of people blaming others (Like Lupa,JesuOtaku,Phelous, etc.) on this issue.

I have been following Spoony for a year on Twitter and I can assure you it was far beyond the rape joke that started it. Far, Far beyond that.

Spoony has been struggling on his depression, but the way he was handling it, was so out of control that he took it out on everybody that cared about him.

As for Obscures Lupa goes, Spoony continued to make tweets about how he wishes he would be dog and not having to care, and he later made references to his ex-girlfriend Scarlett.

That is when Lupa had enough told him that she is not following him on Twitter anymore, he didn't understand why, and that is when Lupa brought up that Spoony made a rape joke on JesuOtaku.

When Spoony announced that he has been suspended for 4 weeks on his Twitter account, he accepted the punishment, but later he started lashing out on people again.

That is when some of his fans started attacking Lupa and JesuOtaku, they blamed them for his suspension. It got to the point that Lupa had to address it on her tumblr account then later on her Twitter account, as well as JesuOtaku.

Phelous only stepped in, because a lot of people were attacking his girlfriend (In case you don't know Phealous and Lupa are going out).He also got more upset when Spoony tweeted to his fans that they should JesuOtaku alone, but not Lupa, so Lupa continued to receive horrible feedback from his fans. So Spoony continued to spiral out of control and was let go from TGWTG.

Everyone, including Holly Christine, are assuring everyone that it was not the rape joke that started it, and I believe it because I have been following Spoony on Twitter and it was far beyond the rape joke, it was the way he was handling his issues that started it.

So...we had most things after the rape joke right? Aside from leaving out stuff like Phelous being Lupa's girlfriend and stuff like that.

Thanks for the explanation. It's an important moment for TGWTG. I never knew his fans were such assholes though.

Oh yeah, most of his fans are immature dicks. You should try reading the comments on his website sometime. Whenever Spoony showcased another reviewer on his site they would immediatley bash them. I normally don't hate on someone's fans but his can go fuck themselves... The shitty ones, that is.

The crossover with Filmbrain went very ugly very fast, I remember that one. Cudos to the two though for how they handled it in the review after. Would love to know who wrote that part...

Sadly, Spoony has been plagued for years by a certain subset of fandom who are, well, trollish assholes. The trolls ended up picking on just about anyone who wasn't Spoony, making unpleasant remarks about their appearance and so forth. It got to the point where many of the other TGWTG contributors had to ask Spoony to stop featuring their work on his site because the trolls were so out of hand.

And then there was the time where he made a video to celebrate his winning the Mashable Award ... only to take it down immediately. Why? It's because his then-girlfriend Scarlet was in the video, and the trolls were super-mean to her. He took it down, and then wrote 'An Appeal for Manners'.

Below is a portion of that rant which I've quoted:

Noah: That said, the celebration is tainted a great deal for me because of a few bad eggs out there who continue to post cruel and hateful things on the blog and on the forums. I’m very, very upset right now. In fact, some of the comments lately have left me completely outraged. I’ve taken down my latest video and I don’t intend to remake it, because honestly, I’m not in the mood. I don’t feel like being funny, and you don’t want to see me in front of the camera right now. These wanton emotional attacks on hard-working, innocent people have to stop. I don’t mind if you come after me; in a way, I open myself up for it. I’d prefer if you didn’t insult me, of course, but I can take it. Where I draw the line is when you make hateful, ignorant comments against my friends, family, and loved ones. These belligerent, crude comments have caused more harm than you know. It’s not fair. It’s not warranted. There’s no call to ever say such awful things to anyone, and I’m tired of it.

And I know that I’m only addressing a scant few people out there. I have thousands and thousands of fans, almost all of whom are astoundingly generous, kind, and supportive. I know you’re good people, and I never get to thank these fans enough. It sucks that I have to stop the presses, drag the whole party down, and give these cowards the attention they don’t deserve.

I hope you’ll all pay close attention when I tell you this: this site has a bad reputation. The people I work with don’t like it when I post their videos here, because they tell me that the fans here are downright petty and childishly mean. And I don’t know what to tell them. My moderators and admins work overtime filtering out hate speech.

---

He concluded that rant by telling the trolls to go away because those are the kinds of fans he doesn't want.

Considering all that Noah Antwiler aka The Spoony One has gone through in the past few years (health problems, his breakup with Scarlet, AND having to face trollish fans), it's not too surprising that he snapped. Still sad to see it happen, though.

You know, you think TGWTG would learn that last time people left the site that trying to cover it up or kepe it private isn't the best way to go.

Apollo Z Hack left because he wasn't getting enough views and thus not enough money to keep the series going.

The Distressed Watcher left because he agreed that his style of black comedy isn't what the site was interested in.

However before I finally hunted down those reasons all sorts of rumours flew around about all sorts of reasons why it happened. Hence why I was sceptical about Spoony being fired at first since the same thing has happened before.

Still, you think a company who's primary role is to feature people making internet videos and getting the audience invested in these people's work would realise that you can't just fire someone and expect people not to ask why. But if they did come up with an offical reason (even if it's a lie) it'd still be better then trying to keep quiet.

I think we all learnt something from the various political scandels in history: The cover-up is worst than the crime itself. I think people wouldn't be so focused on the issue if they'd just tell us the truth and let everyone have their say on that, not on constantly coming up with the same conclusions that have been previously refuted.

As for Apollo Z. Hack, I heard an interview with him saying that at least part of the reason he left TGWTG was because he broke up with Lupa and staying there was a bit awkward. He still wanted (perhaps still wants) to do a crossover with Linkara and JewWario, and last I checked was still on good terms with both of them. But the Reviewaverse Saga will probably never be completed since Lupa was going to be a big part of the ending.

That being said, Apollo Z. Hack was only on the site a short time and hadn't become all that popular anyway. Not that he'd had much time to, though.

Spoony, on the other hand, was one of the biggest stars on the site. You can't sweep him under the rug the way you could with a short-timer like Apollo Z. Hack, or someone who never was all that popular, like Aussie Guy (who was indeed fired for spreading malicious gossip about CA personalities).

Spoony was a major figure in TGWTG, doing frequent crossovers with others. His Dr. Insano character used to appear on Atop The Fourth Wall even more often than on the Spoony Experiment, and had an ongoing feud with Angry Joe in the yearly Hotel Awesome skits. Spoony had a large fanbase (though sadly, there was and is a portion made up of really horrible trolls that Spoony himself wanted to be rid of), and CA's donation drives for the Ronald McDonald House children's charity would get more calls when Spoony was around.

So naturally, when someone like him leaves the site, people are going to talk about it. A lot.

From what I heard, Dan insinuated that Lindsay was sleeping around with some of the other producers. There may have been some other factors, but that was what Lindsay said on her blog. So general dickishness was a factor in ThatAussieGuy's departure.

It's a personal decision to not engage in the speculation about TGWTG that I'm not privy to, yet interject some levity into an otherwise dramatic discussion, my friend.  I mean no disrespect by it.  Peace.

Really? I thought it was a complex metaphor about how the cookies represent the site as a whole and how the individual chocolate bits represent each individual memeber and how the removal on jsut one chocolate bit could cause the cookie to crumble away into nothing, in a cookie apocolaypse so to speak.

And the milk just symbolizes a glass of milk. Not everything needs to be over-anaylsed  you know :P
