A Quick Review of:
![]()
Ridley Scott returns to his most beloved franchise. Does he bring the magic of the first film back with him or do we have another episode one on our hands? Let’s find out…..
The Plot:
If you seen the trailers you can get the general idea for the movie. A group of scientist finds signs of archeological around the world that life on earth was started by an alien race (uhoh! Getting an AVP feel for this). Following their signs, they travel light years away from earth to find the ancient race. Things do not go well.
So How Was It?
First off this film is absolutely beautiful. The production design, effects and sets are great and you can tell and lot of time was into not only making them look good as well as fit into the world of the Alien franchises.
It’s were we get into the cast were the problems start to show up. While the main cast of Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Logan Marshall-Green, and Idris Elba all do an amazing job. The smaller characters are not really developed all that well (fact I’m pretty sure two didn’t even get a line but I could be wrong). I blame this mostly on the cast size, seeing as there are 17 crew members and it is clear that some are just present to be killed off.
Now you may have noticed that I haven’t mentioned Michael Fassbender yet, and that is because I wanted to talk about him separate from the rest of the cast. The man is amazing in the role, and steals ever scene that he is in. The man is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors and he really shows a different side of his acting range then we have seen before in this movie.
Now if I do have any big problems with the movie, it’s with the story. Don’t get me wrong, the film is well written and the tone of the movie is constant throughout the film. However there are a few plot points that don’t quite add up or felt somewhat rushed. I also had quite a few questions left after finishing this movie. Now it is possible that these well be answered in the sequel, which they are really setting up the last 10 minutes or so of the film. But should another movie never come to be, I will be disappointed as they leave some plot threads dangling.
My Advice:
I’m a bit on the fence for what score to give this. If you are the kind of person where dangling plot threads really bugs, I’d say wait for Blu-Ray. But if you are a fan of the previous Alien films and for me personally, it’s a Must See.
So have you seen the movie? If so be sure to let me know what you think. Until next time.
