EXPRESS YOURSELF 03: Important Things People Needs To Be Mindful Within The Community

Posted by Jockerlee77 on March 18, 2012 at 2:55 PM

Hello everyone at Manic Expression wow is things. well It been a few days since I have posted a very important question up on the forum about the important of community. I have to say that people who had answered my question all have great reason as to why they had join not just this community but others as well. I myself feel the community is very important to me on the simple fact I am not lone and that there are good talented people out there who cares what I have to say as well as is will to give me feedback in order better not only the site but myself as well, (I will get back to feedback later in this blog because it played an important part to where I’m coming with this.) to simply put I love this community and is proud to be a part of it and would hate to see it fall apart over a silly think like ego or pride which is why it lead to me to write this blog. Now before I began let me start out by saying that this is not a rant on anyone I am just bring up things that could easy bring unwanted tension within the community. These problems could have been prevented if they’ve just communicated with each other. These things I feel needs to be address so that way we do not fall into the same trip which could have destroyed both the YouTube community as well as the community of That Guy with the Glasses for that Matter. No this is not a rant but a concern that we all need to be mindful in the upcoming future. And if you disagree with me or want to add your own impute on this matter thing cool in fact I hope you do because you opinion do matter. And with that, let’s get to the topic at hand.

The internet community the goods and the bad

With the pass week there been a big ruff with the YouTube movie reviewer’s community which led to a misery man making bad statements on line about a reviewer name Chris Shuckmann. Now for throw who don’t know who Chris Shuckmann is he is one of the many Internet reviewers on YouTube who reviews movies and TV. For throw who do know who he is as well as the situation then you know where am heading with this. This man who made this video did not reveal his name nor did he spoken in his real voce yet that did not stop him fro make hush clam about how Chris how he a bully and that he could care less about the subscribers as blasted other who disagree with his opinion. He also had pointed fingers at other video that are a part of a larger community who did not speak out ageist the thors he attacks. In short he called the community for looking out for themselves and not the beast interest of the community as well as the people who had subscribed to it.

What was going on had brought unrest to the people for neither Chris nor any of the YouTube community was saying anything about weather this was true or if this guy was talking out of hatred. What was worse is that people was started to think that this video was none other than Fury of the Film fan; the person responsible in bringing the reviewer community together. He also spoke out against bullying, trolls, and plagiarism. This was sad but not as sad as seeing fury making a rant video saying that he does not deny or confirm if in fact that was him before he went on a rant talking about how he was no longer friends with Chris and that the community was broken, divided and need to be fixes. In his video he went on by saying that Christ Shuckmann is a fake and need to stop lairing about who is is as well as stop using his channel to get free DVDs, and other thing in exchange for shout out. What made this video even more disputing was the fact that he was also getting the community for not seacking out as well as the people for not opening there moth to let others know what was happen to them. in the end fury had completely close his account on YouTube at the same time the video ranted had also close his account leveling people confused and angry. And that was because the Fury was sucking up for a person who was doing the exact same thing he himself had spoken out ageist; bully and trolling. In any case no one form the reviewer’s community had said anything and form what I’ve been seeing I don’t think will. Some may have good reason like this is between former bet friends and it had nothing to do with them. or maybe they really don’t care. In any case what it did do was leave question in the eyes of many as to how together the community really is.

What I have learn form this

Now I know you must be asking why I had mention this if this dose not have anything to do with the site well you see it to make a point as how pride and ego of one person can ruin a great thing. What had happen on youtube could have and should been private if the community had come together and talked the matter which had surfers with one of its members. or better yet fury should have came to Chris and had a one on one with on the issue that some of the other reviews are having in how he Is conducting himself on line. It did not happen and as a result it lifts a lot of people wondering what the hell’s going on and why was there insults happening within the community. To me a community cannot work this way it should not work this way. It should not work. And it is the very reason why I made a lest of thing that need to be mindful off when posting thing on this site as well as other site I go to from time to time.

1. Never put down others on any site: just because I’ve disagree with someone views or opinion does not give me the right to go on their web page and start calling them names or tell them that they need to erase there videos of blog they do not know what there are talking about. I also do not have the right to tell someone else not to follow their dreams or call names because of their spelling or how there look. It is wrong and completely uncalled for.

2. Accepting feedback: To me getting feedback from the community as well as some of the people who had taken the time to view my work is very important. I also must understand it not a attack on me should not take as such. Feedback is a good thing because people can see the mistakes I had mad when I can’t and can point out the things I need to work on do the road. This is something I had found I need to work on a lot because let faces most of us don’t like it when someone points out the mistake we sometime made. But love it when we get some parses. It on of the reason why my foster farther never give my parses only constructive criticism. It was later explain that I have already knows the good thing I need; it’s your fault I need to work on to become better. We learn from having constructive criticism and should not get angry when someone give us that kind of feedback, by yelling at then or saying they do not know what they are talking about.

3. If there’s an issue; address it: if there a problem that could bring tension to the whole community then talk so that way it do not become worse and course in ease on the site. To many times people do not talked about the issue at hand and it always leads to other problems which could divide or destroy the community all together. I have seen happen on youtube and at That Guy with the Classes.com.

4. Don’t let your ego get in the way of what best of the community: this is all too common in the community and in a place of business. And that ego can get the better of them to the point where people do not to work or even be around you. This happen when we believe we are always right and everyone else is wrong, or would not apologize when they are in the wrong and cry foul when someone is given them feedback, or did not get their way. Sometime their ego si so big that we become bitter and forget about what is best as a whole. This is something I always look out for it is the one reason I I never put down anyone who may like something I do not or not something I love. I do not make video knocking others YouTube channel s because I don’t like them or work of any reason. In short I must never let my ego get the better of me.

Final thought on the matter

This some of the thing I feel we should be at lest mindful of as this site grows. I love this site more then what I had expected. I mad some real good friends here and I get to share some of my video as blog to then while at the same time lov seeing there hard wok as well. And the last thing I want to see go down the drain because certain issue have not been address as well as someone feel there view are the only thing that matter. Throws are some of the things that can really have an impact on the site not a good way. So as you can see it was the mine reason why I had posted that question on the forum. It is one of the few things I did agreed with what the Fury said before he had ended his video and close his channel, and that you can’t call it a community if you are not willing to address the issue that affects it. it just a shame that he do that handle with his fellow reviewers. What do you think about this topic? Do some of the things I have address made scenes? Or do you have your own view on the matter. By all means give your feedback on matter, Express Yourself.

You are awesome. The "Golden Rule" is what I was raised on and my parents were raised on that rule as well. I'm glad you beautifully elaborated on it. You are awesome. I'm giddy to see your other blogs as well.

thanks for the feedback, Kim, and sorry if the spelling is a little off

Great article, I can see these are lessons learned through a lot of experience in life and the internet. I think the rules you listed at the end should pretty much be treated as the Golden Rules by every member. Well done, excellent advice and observations!

thanks, Ciunning Runt,

Well said Jockerlee. I believe that if we keep with the assertion of civil discourse that you and Les have stated, then this site and what it stands for will never deteriorate.

thank you the feedback my friend.

As this site grows larger, spambots will come, trolls will see a new target, regular members who are just here to watch, not contribute, will join(I don't mind those). This site is still very young. To me and my fellow admins, let us never become detached from it, I believe that is the first of many things that caused the spiraling downhill motion of the TGWTG community. It's not that they stopped caring, they just stopped being part of the community and started acting more like kings. If we can avoid this catastrophe, I am certain this site will see good light.

tha k you so much for the feedback.

Hi Jockerlee77. Amen, my friend. You just took the Manic Expressiom Misssion Statement and beautifully elaborated on its spirit and what we're hoping to accomplish in this community. You also did a great job expressing one of my biggest assertions: Civil discourse. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with someone so long as its done with respect. Personal attacks are uncalled for. Argue the merits of the subject, but don't take the low road and start flaming and muck throwing. If you criticize, make it constructive. Offer reasons why something doesn't work and offer solutions for making it better. This makes the difference between constructive criticism and putting down someone like a troll would.

We, the admins, are here to help the members with problems and to support their art and themselves. If you have anything that's bothering you, please come and see one of us, and we'll try and help you solve it. We have a really great thing going here at Manic Expression, so we want to nurture it well and take care of it so it's there for us whenever we need it. Our community is as strong as our members, and we have exceptional members inhabiting our community. I'm very proud to be a part of it. Peace.

Jockerlee,
Thank you for going to all the trouble of putting this blog together. I think its important that we operate as a true community. I don't want to name names, but other sites don't act as a community. ...Okay, I'll name ONE name - YouTube. I suppose if YouTube IS a community, its a big city. Its New York or Detroit or somewhere like that. Can there be good neighborhoods in a big city? Sure. But people don't, by and large, look out for each other. I suppose Manic Expression is more like a small town right now. Everyone has everyone else's back.

But we ARE going to get bigger. My goal was to reach 75 members by April 1 and I think we're going to hit that two weeks early. We'll cross 100 members in the next month or two. As we get bigger, problems will erupt, and we all need to act accordingly to keep the spirit of this site alive. We have something special here, and I don't want to see that go away - I want to see it grow.

thanks for the feedback, my friend. it was sad to see how these two reviewer ended their friendship in that way but it did remine to let let prade and ego get the best of you.
