Those of you who read my Controversial Film Reviews: Going against the Consensus series will know my last review was a negative review of Titanic (1997). In the opening paragraph; I stated that James Cameron was one of the best directors in Hollywood with great visuals and solid performances, At the same time Cameron is one of the worst writers in Hollywood (as the title of this article suggests). However, I was unable to properly tie that into the rest of the review. I did have some...

In the recent months, fewer and fewer shows have being taking and/or maintaining my interests. Most by osmosis I have simply stopped watching. Hell, from what I have watched very few of it was on the actual television. In watching James' recent Stop the Hate on Getting Rid of Cable TV I sort of made a snap decision to wean myself off watching TV shows. Especially if I am simply "meh" about keeping up with them.

This is the most serious article I have, and probably ever will, write on this site. It is actually quite ironic when you realise this is something that should not have been taken seriously at all.
If you did not guess by the title; my article is dealing with the academy awards, in particular surrounding a controversy surrounding one man…

Defend someone from unfair attacks and slander with reason and proof.
You are automatically a white knight.
Block someone for harassment.
You are automatically butthurt.
Start a webshow with very slight similarities to another internet reviewer.
You are automatically a rip-off.
Make a statement that you don't like a certain person, place, thing, or subject.
You are automatically a hater.

A few years ago when this show was first being advertised, my initial reaction was, ‘hey, that could be interesting!’. However, approximately half way through the second episode, my expectations were dashed, this show goes into a category called, “So Close, Yet So Far Away” a very sad category indeed where things that could have been truly awesome, but just didn’t quite go in the right direction and ended up doing a face plant. Some four seasons later, this show ...

Oh, if only I had written you desperate housewives. If only the idea had come to me, then I would have been able to flush it down the crapper with the rest of my poop and be done with it.
When in the past I’ve written these style blogs, it’s always focused on some form of media that I think could do with a few tweaks to make it truly awesome. This, I am afraid, is not the case with Desperate Housewives, when it comes to DH I am committed to the belief that it...

I’ve noticed that in the news about the upcoming 2012 elections there has been a lot of weight put onto women’s rights.
Now, I know I’m from New Zealand and law changes in the U.S shouldn’t directly affect me, but that’s for now. How long before these discussions on women’s rights spread to the rest of the world and threaten to push us back into the 1950’s? I worry so much about this possible overturn of Roe vs Wade because I thi...

Have you ever read or seen anything and cursed the person who wrote it? ‘If only that had been my idea, I so could have made it better!’ Well luckily for us fan fiction today is as prevalent as a nasty case of thrush. Not so lucky for me, I’m too lazy to write my version of Twilight, oh, Fame and Fortune, maybe another day, eh?
I first read Twilight some three years ago when I was sixteen, and I’m telling you now it Changed. My. Life. I was a ve...

In recent times it has become increasingly difficult to venture out into the public space without being bombarded with sexual imagery. One does not even have to leave their house in order to have it thrown at them because it has infiltrated every type of media. There are two major effects that our sex saturated culture has had; one, we become used to it because it is so pervasive, and it is no longer shocking. Two, we have come to see people in terms of their performed sexuality and so we exp...

As with any new technology, the advent of the electronic cigarettes is a blessing for some and a potential curse for others. Smoking has been around for about 18,000 years but just as man evolved, so did his habits: enter the electronic cigarette. The E-cigarette is made to resemble a real one and even has a light on its tip that glows when you take a puff. Pulling air through the device activates a miniature heating element inside of it which turns its liquid nicotine mixture into water vapo...

The end is near…you know, the Mayans said this, Nostradamus said that, and a bunch of scientists have their own theories as well. I believe that it's possible but I'm not so sure on the near part and if you really think about it, the world ends for someone every single day. People really seem to want to believe that it is all going to come to some fiery end for us and we as a culture will be judged for our sins or our essence will simply be erased from the planet. Of course this is very...

There is one thing that has really caught my attention lately and that is the general lack of manners and respect people show one another. I have noticed that a lot of people in my town really like to bitch and complain about their lives and their jobs. I realize there are few people that genuinely love what they do, but if one more cashier tells me that she is tired from working another double I think I might scream. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind small talk: tell me about the ...
